Saturday Semi-phony in A Minor

12:27 pm:  Rory rips one down the middle of the No. 1 fairway, serving notice on the so-called leaders that this is Rory’s House.

  • This is a major that feels more like a minor.
  • The online stream feature group coverage was great; I’m bummed I will have to watch the television broadcast coverage now.
  • Of players in the Top Twenty, Lanny H Golf endorses, in order: James Hahn, Rickie Fowler, Byeong Hun An, Kevin Kisner, Hideki Matsuyama, Patrick Reed/Justin Thomas (tie).  If we extend to Top Twenty-Five, add Bud Cauley and Lee Westwood.
  • The numbers are in, and, once again, the PGA Championship is the strongest tournament of the year.

Quote of the Day:

Over the past decade a new, and very revealing, locution has drifted from our universities into the media mainstream: Speaking as an X…This is not an anodyne phrase. It sets up a wall against any questions that come from a non-X perspective. Classroom conversations that once might have begun, I think A, and here is my argument, now take the form, Speaking as an X, I am offended that you claim B. What replaces argument, then, are taboos against unfamiliar ideas and contrary opinions.

I came back to TV after suspension of play and coverage seemed more normal…showing a variety of golfers especially the leaders. It took them most of two days to figure that out?

Early coverage this morning seems to be dwelling on Spieth’s crappy play. Reminiscent of Tiger Woods-watch.

Looking forward to the final groups.

Add your name to millions demanding that Congress take action on the President’s crimes. IMPEACH DONALD TRUMP!

  3. lannyh says:

Hey, Golf Media, you notice Vijay and Stricker are playing while Woods is retired to the Florida criminal justice system, and Mickelson shot +11 and is back home in California crying about high taxes?

All in your eggs in one Golfdashian Twins basket?

  4. Speedy says:

Now if this event could just deep-six the club pros.
Coverage has improved considerably. Course is stingy with birds, which is the way it should be.

  5. Speedy says:

Two 67s so far. The course is set up magnificently. Hope they don’t dumb it down for the final round, as is too often the case on the PGA Tour.

  6. lannyh says:

Spieth isn’t even the low Jordan.

Rickie better heat up, or I’m through with golf until after football season.

  7. Speedy says:

Rickie T4, there’s a glimmer hope at the moment for lannyh.

  8. Speedy says:

Rors was just interviewed after his flat round of +2. Can’t win this, so he’s interested in building momentum going into the FedUp Cup. Who cares.

  9. Speedy says:

Astounding, Rickie pitches on 14 &15.

  10. lannyh says:

Worst putting day I’ve ever seen Hideki have.

Bugs me a little that Kisner seems to have played this course a lot, and perhaps after the changes. Grayson grew and lives 150 miles away and had never played there until this week.

  11. Speedy says:

“Local knowledge” resulting in a W is the exception, not the rule. Find another grouse.

    • lannyh says:

I’m not following. Are you saying local knowledge is not an advantage because it doesn’t lead to 100 percent victory results?

    • lannyh says:

All I said was, “Bugs me a little that Kisner seems to have played this course a lot, and perhaps after the changes.” Hardly incendiary. Seems to have turned your troll dial to 11.

  12. Speedy says:

Don’t be childish and lash out like Orangeman. Sounds like from what I’ve read at this website, that you have your boys and if they’re not performing you get all pouty and start grasping at straws.

This time, it’s “local knowledge” that bugs you. ha ha

    • lannyh says:

Yeah, right. Because in this very article I wrote listed Kisner as my fourth most rooting favorite in the top twenty. So I was “whining” or “grousing.”

What I did was make an honest point. That I felt like the local knowledge angle detracted a little from his great play. Not sure why you would want to start an argument over something like that.

Let’s hope drunkenness is clouding your thinking. That’s a temporary malady.

  13. Speedy says:

You’re thrashing around. Have a rest and come back refreshed.

    “Local knowledge”, in more trouble.
