NBC has ruined this event for me…I just don’t find this course that great(as I stated before), but when EVERY year, you have to hear Roger Maltbies ‘better than most’ about 74 times, and see EVERYONE hit the ball in the water on the 17th, it becomes too repetitive year after year….I just don’t care about this tournament, and have hardly watched this week…….
Total agreement. Golf coverage is just awful. As for the Woods stuff, like you said yesterday, who the heck are they doing that for? No Woods Only fan is watching, and it is just tedious and annoying for golf fans.
They obsess over one or two things at every tournament. This one is No. 17, obviously. They show tracker and tracers and multi-angles as if the green being an island somehow makes the shots fascinating.
But even apart from that, the coverage just plain stinks. A couple of them just refuse to shut the $&%#$ up. Guys, it’s television, not radio. I don’t need to be told he missed the putt to the right. And the “he pulled it/he pushed it” crap needs to end. It’s just awful. If you go back and watch old broadcasts from 20-30 years ago, they are just so much better.
They need a total shakeup. If they refuse to admit golf is not a comedy show, why not bring in a guest commentator each week? At least their schtick would be novel. Or better yet, ask a Tour pro who is off to sit in. It would give him publicity, and the viewing audience might get an insight into what it’s really like.
As it is, there are times when I WANT to watch, but I simply can’t stomach the broadcast. That’s sad.
Boy, the final round leaders this year have really sucked, for the most part…If Jason Day blows this, would it actually help Jordan Spieth mentally?

Rory Mcllroy’s putting is really his crutch right now…Not sure what has changed….And boy it’s time for Johnny Miller to go….Tired of his Eldrick references every 10 seconds….Seriously, Johnny might be paid behind the scenes, for mentioning him….It’s really bizarre…..Jack Nicklaus is rarely mentioned, yet Johnny played during Jacks time….
I just turned it on, and I’m tired of Johnny for some other reasons, too. Mainly, he won’t shut up, and has to give a “reason” for everything…. “Oh, when he took his practice swing, it was a fraction of an inch higher than the ball was lying, so that caused him to…”
I prefer the Brits who say after a guy four-putts might say, “Well, he really made an unnecessary mess out of that one.”
oh yeah brit announcers treat it like a picnic….after all it’s supposed to be a gentleman’s game….
Jimmy Roberts just had to have a 5 minute story about last year with Fowler….That is what the olympics are, about 1000 five minutes stories about peoples families, their dogs, their dogs hobbies, ect….What is it with NBC and their stupid stories? .
I saw that Jimmy Roberts segment. That’s about when I turned it off. Just checked in, saw Day with four shots heading to 72nd. These guys need to do something when hard-core golf fans are tuning them out due to the ANNOUNCERS. Put the Euro Tour crew on, and I would have watched all day.
I’m not really sure how I feel about it, but I know I find it a bit odd how much Jason openly discussed winning this event and it’s impact on his potential for the Hall of Fame. I guess I don’t dislike it, it just seems odd as you don’t generally hear players, especially relatively young players, openly talking about the Hall of Fame like this.
it’s nbc….they are terrible…..they are the ones asking the questions ect, and trying to make this event more than it is, since it really is JUST another pga event wrapped with a fancier package……Winning this event should no more get you in the hall of fame, than winning the John Deere….
Sure, the media asked the question about “what it would mean to win”, but Jason, seemingly on his own, took it to HoF level.
He’s probably tossing Finchem a bone. For both the Hall and the Players.
