The Truth About Super Bowl Media Coverage; Jordan Delay; Face it: Phil violated NCAA rules

Sunday Afternoon Update:  The San Diego Open is providing some pretty compelling viewing due to some weather moving in.  This might be fun!

Don’t forget to keep an eye on Golf Channel.  I am pretty sure they’ll pick up the finish of the Singapore Open, where Jordan Spieth still has a chance in the weather-delayed conclusion.  He has one hole to play, the leader has three.  Jordan trails by two.  Click here to get Singapore local time.

Super Bowl:  This needs to be said.  We have the first interesting Super Bowl in years.  Peyton Manning.  Cam Newton.  Nothing more needs to be said.

But the media hates this matchup.  To them, there is “little interest” in the game because there is no team with ties to a major media market.  So what did the media do?  Why, they turned the game into a race issue, of course.  All based on one offhand remark from Cam.

Charles Barkley once again hits the nail on the head:

Also, Barkley aimed some of his strong opinions at ESPN, saying the network is using race to frame its Super Bowl 50 pregame narrative.

“ESPN has already started their crap about black versus white, good versus evil and I know a lot of those fools over there got radio talk shows,” he said. “It really annoys the hell out of me.”

There was a saying about pickup trucks I heard when growing up: “I’d rather my sister be a whore than my brother drive a Dodge.”  Well, I’d rather my sister be a whore than my brother be a sports reporter.

Jordan:  We’ll have to wait until tonight to see what happens.  A weather delay stopped play with one hole to go for Jordan, who trails by two.  The leader still had several holes yet to play and has shown some signs of nerves.  If Jordan doesn’t win, I hope Song does.

Mickelson’s Woes:  This isn’t going away.  The kid played as an amateur on Dec 6 in the Aussie Masters.  He “won” 5 grand from Mickelson on Dec 21.  He signed with Nike on Jan 15.

What part of “Phil Mickelson handed the kid $5,000 while recruiting him” don’t you understand?

I could be wrong, but Song ain’t making bogey on a par 5 finishing hole.

Did you notice Jordan doesn’t have his normal caddie this week?

I saw Jordan misclub a time or two, and I wondered if Greller would have made any difference.

I thought Jordan was going to do it when he birdied 18. Song, who was my second favorite among the leaders, had been shaky yesterday. I would not have been surprised to see him stumble on one of the final two holes.

Sneeeedker may get screwed here. He had to play his hole round in today’s weather, which was a phenomenal round given the conditions. With the delay, many of the guys at the top, that are still on the course, may get to come back and finish in better conditions tomorrow morning.

I didn’t really follow today’s action until Sneds was on, I don’t know, maybe No. 14 or No. 15. I just assumed he got an advantage by starting early. Was it bad all day? If he played in the same stuff, yeah, it is a bit unlucky.

Oh, crap. I had GC on to follow Singapore, and in less than one minute, Kelly and Cook have both mentioned Tiger Woods. Showing my decision to jettison Morning Drive and the post/pre-game show was wise. Oh, shit, now this other guy (Trip?) has mentioned Woods twice in his first sentence. He got a third mention in before I switched to Trump coverage on CNN.

GC is a parody of a parody of a parody.

It was bad all day. Some moments worse than others, but it was pretty much shitty all day. Even had a couple of delays. Calling for sun and less wind tomorrow which is obviously a huge advantage over rain and 30+ mph wind.

Interesting factoid. No golf tournament finished on Sunday this week. Well, of the three I followed. Qatar ended (as it traditionally does) on Saturday. Singapore and Torrey Pines were both pushed to Monday finishes by weather.

Looks like the “better” weather didn’t end up hosing Sneeedeker. Seems the switch in wind direction was a huge part of that as the last few holes still played tough as a result. Example, Sneds got home easily on 18 yesterday with a helping wind while no one could get home in 2 today. Congrats to SNEEEEEEDEKER!
