Tuesday Thoughts

Why Rory and Lanny are the Best:  Nice piece from Ewan Murray about Rory McIlroy.  Touches on his recent eye surgery.  I would have done the same thing as Rory and postponed it like he did.  If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.  Why is Lanny the best?  I wrote about how the surgery could have a beneficial effect on his putting due to improved green reading.  Rory seems to think the same!

Masters Week is Here!  How do I know this?  I saw four flowers on an azalea bush in my yard this morning.  Full-out purple flowers, I’m telling you.  The rest of the bush had budded, but so far just the four blooms.  Does December count as an early spring?

Start With A Bang:  The US PGA has all but abandoned the first two months of the year, instead focusing on continuing the season as far as possible into fall football season.  The UAE happily fills the void, with Abu Dhabi, Qatar, and Dubai now the golf world’s most visible events in January-February.  Thanks to the Euro Tour and the UAE, January/February has become one of my favorite times of the year for golf.  This year Rory and Jordan are both playing Abu Dhabi, the first of the three.  This is reminiscent of the Ali-Frazier fight in the Thrilla in Manila or the Rumble in the Jungle where Ali battled Foreman.  The two best in the world traveling overseas to face off.  Abu Dhabi will be huge — and it is only three weeks away.  Fowler is in the field, too.

Euros Smart, Americans Dumb:  The Euro Tour has a couple of “next year” events in December.  They simply make it known that those events count for the following year, which is called the “2016 season.”  The American Tour goes with the clumsy, idiotic 2015-2016.  The Americans are so dumb they do dumb things out of fear of someone calling them dumb.  A snowball effect.
