Tuesday Thoughts: “Fore Horsemen”

Here are my thoughts this morning:

  • Big Three — This tag is great.  Sometimes you need a catchy tag, and this one is perfect.  Rory, Spieth, and Day have won five of the last six majors, half the recent WGC events, and two straight FedEx playoff tourneys.
  • Big Four — Should Rickie Fowler be part of this conversation?
  • Fab Four — If Rickie should be part of this group, we’ll need to spice up Big Four.
  • Fantastic Four — Too cumbersome?  Bad to link to a poorly-received movie?
  • Fore Horsemen — I like that one!  Sweet!  I need write no more!  You saw it here first!  (Well, there seems to be a board game called The Fore! Horsemen.  But, certainly, I’m the first to apply it to Rory, Day, Spieth, and Rickie.  That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it!)

….So Phil gets picked over Brookes Koepka for the President’s Cup? Just proves it’s just a popularity contest, as opposed to picking the best golfers….
…Koekpa should be picked, to get experience for the Ryder Cup next year, since we DONT want to see Phil and Furyk again do we….Phil and Jim are probably the biggest reason the USA has embarrassed itself these last 15 years in the Ryder Cup….TIme to move on from those guys in these events…Time for new blood/players….

Wow. I didn’t know they were picking today. I’d say it’s unbelievable, but it’s all too believable. Oh, well, I hope the other one is Haas’s kid.

Phil didn’t deserve this. Leadership in golf is very overrated. And I say this as a Phil fan since he won as an amateur.

I think you’re a little harsh on his RC record though. Furyk’s record of 10-20-4 is really bad. Mickelson is 16-19-6. Yes, a losing record. But when the US has lost 8 out of 10 Ryder Cups, you’re going to have very few players with good records. Being just under .500 isn’t that bad considering the teams that he’s been on. I don’t mean that he hasn’t been part of the reason that the US has lost, he has for sure. But it’s not like a player totally controls his own record since you’re paired with another players in most matches. Looked at relative to other players on the team, Phil’s record isn’t that bad.

That being said, I can’t think of anyone I’d rather be paired with less in alternate shot. Imagine trying to play some of Phil’s drives.

Surprised Sang Moon Bae wasn’t a pick. I don’t think Phil really wants or needs to play the Presidents Cup but he better play them while he still is in the running. Could be his last. I’m glad Jay picked his son:)
