Friday Greenbrier Semi Live Blog, featuring “Amanda who? Sorry, never heard of her.”

Update 7:08 pm  Golf Central just spent the entire first eight minutes on Woods.  One of the things they mentioned was that Woods refused to talk to any media after his round.  Wow.  Very interesting.  Golf Channel covers up the Amanda Dufner scandal for him, and he thanks them by stiffing them.  What a classy guy!

Update 5:55 pm  Tiger Woods splashes his tee shot on No. 17.  He needs to bogey in to make the (current) cut.  After seeing the result, he slammed his driver into the tee box.  Great etiquette.

Update 5:30 pm  Congratulations to Tiger Woods for being named today Golf Channel’s FedExCup Game Changer!

Update 4:20 pm  Cameras come on, Woods yips a chip, bogies.  The gallery is small and doesn’t seem to be cheering for him.  Amanda Dufner fallout, no doubt.  Cut line is currently -2; Woods currently two shots better than that.

Update 3:45 pm  Some really good Tiger coverage on the Golf Channel pregame.  Not a single mention of Amanda Dufner, but plenty of highlights from his front nine today!  I was able to totally forget about the new sex scandal and pretend it was 2000 all over again.  Good stuff!

The golf media refuses to ask Tiger Woods about Amanda Dufner because they are serious journalists who cover professional golf, not celebrity gossip.  A quick glance at a few past headlines shows the golf media’s no-nonsense approach to journalism:

Golf Channel:

  • Amanda Dufner Says Goodbye to Summer
  • Woman Crush Wednesday: Amanda Dufner
  • Jason and Amanda Dufner Attend 2014 Kentucky Derby
  • Dufners Are Having a Better Holiday Weekend Than You
  • The Dufners Are On Another Glorious Vacation
  • Amanda Dufner’s stock at all-time high
  • Grill Room: Tiger news, Amanda Dufner’s summer
  • Dufners Keep Winning, Sit Courtside With 50 Cent at MSG
  • Jason and Amanda Dufner Photo Gallery
  • Jason, Amanda Dufner getting a divorce
  • Amanda Dufner resurfaces in bikini, with dog

Golf Digest:

  • Jason Dufner tells Howard Stern: “Yeah, I grabbed her butt”
  • In Your Opinion: Dufner’s “butt-squeeze” was the best viral moment of 2013
  • The Dufners Look Like They’re Having A GREAT July 4th (yeah, that’s obviously not this year…)
  • The Grind: The Year In Golf WAGs (features Amanda Dufner)
  • The Grind: Sexy Halloween costumes (features Amanda Dufner)
  • Amanda Dufner Is A Lot More Popular On Google Than Jason
  • Jason Dufner’s Wedding Day Music Video Is A Must-see
  • We Say Goodbye To The Dufners, Hello To Tiger Woods (rather unfortunate headline, eh?)

  • Amanda Dufner and Jason Dufner’s Totally Awesome Fourth Of July Party
  • Photos of Amanda Dufner: The Absolute Best Pictures

Yes, when it comes to the golf media, you can see personal lives have no place in golf.  If you want celebrity gossip, you read people magazine:

  • Video: Jason and Amanda Dufner Go Hiking in Hawaiian Rainforest (Golf Channel)
  • Watch: Jason Dufner’s hilarious hike through a Hawaiian rainforest (
  • Jason & Amanda Dufner hike rainforest on Maui (
  • Watch Jason Dufner try to keep up with his wife on a nature hike (USA Today)
  • VIDEO: Jason Dufner goes hiking in Hawaii (CBS Sports)
  • Jason & Amanda Dufner Tour Hawaii Via Land and Air (Back9Network)

When it comes to the golf media, they are strictly business, so don’t expect them to ask Tiger Woods about Amanda Dufner.  That would be totally inappropriate.

Frankly, I’m shocked that anyone would even think Amanda Dufner is a topic for golf reporters.  That’s preposterous.

When we see MASS-MEDIA-DENIAL, you can only come to one conculssion—-RIGGED…… The media is stuck in a politically correct madness cycle, combined with a bunch of bought and paid off network executives……..We might as well watch the Taliban Sports Network……

    • Sports-realist2 says:

The Media is ONLY allowed to MAJOR IN THE MINORS(besides social and independent media outlets like this one)……Now adultery is meh, but a comment about Mexicans is HUUGGGGEEEE!!!!!!!!…….Making fun of a confused tranvestite is now OFF LIMITS somehow, but saying that we to go back to traditional family values would be ridiculed to no end…..????
People forget that back in 1988, Gary Hart had to step down as a presidential candidate, due to his adultery/fornication…..In 1992, JUST 4 years later, the media pushed and pushed and pushed, that SUDDENLY adultery is JUST their ‘private lives’….People began to buy this notion, and today, some people have been programmed to treat these indiscretions as almost normal…..
With Woods, you get the impression that the media is just pretending it isn’t there? Positive OR negative news about Woods is big money for the media, so this is SHOCKING that they’d avoid it…..Follow the money folks…Follow the money!!!!

      • lannyh says:

Well, there was that John guy from one of the Carolinas who had to stop running for prez. But I think he had a love child.

  2. Sports-realist2 says:

The John Edwards thing was very involved, as the ‘extra’ child and affair was taking place, as his wife was fighting cancer(which made his look extra ‘scum baggish’… Edwards also attempted to coverup(shock) who the really father was, but the coverup got found out….
In this case, the NETWORKS are doing the covering up for Eldrick……The Corporations are doing the cover up or denial to the public…..Steinberg can sit back and sip on margaritas on his yacht, as he knows(for some reason), that the media isn’t ALLOWED to expose Eldrick, beyong praise and admiration…
It will be VERY interesting how this Mickelson stuff plays out…..Is Mickelson ALLOWED to get exposed, or will the corporations who make money off him, come to his aid, and make it all just GO AWAY……We’ll see…

  3. TwoToTango says:

I love how this is all on Tiger and no blame towards Amanda. It does take two to have an affair, afterall.

    • Kris says:

Exactly. They’re both scuzzbags in my opinion. I’m not surprised Dufner is avoiding the media.

      • Sports-realist2 says:

Eldrick seems kinda socially awkward….I find it hard to believe that he’s dr. smooth behind the scenes……He must be using those infamous text messages again….
I just can’t believe these dumb sluts don’t consider the POTENTIAL health danger of messing around with a guy that’s been with hundreds or thousands of women(Wilt Chamberlain anyone?)….

      • lannyh says:

They say Amanda was/is very forward. I don’t know her pre-Duf background, but I can make a good guess.

      • Sports-realist2 says:

Dufner married his girlfriend Amanda Boyd, whom he had met in 2009 through mutual friends at Auburn…..BUT she already would have known he was a PGA golfer aka $$$, going into the relationship…..Anyone know about her background? Couldn’t find anything…

      • lannyh says:

What is your best guess for this… implants?

      • Sports-realist2 says:

my best guess is that Steinberg doesn’t know what is going on, and Tiger is a great example to his kids……excuse me I just puked……

    • lannyh says:

I don’t “slut” and “whore” sum it up, don’t you? Besides, the golf television announcers don’t talk that much about Amanda Dufner during tournaments some other person is winning…

  4. James Langan says:

Clearly yet another illegal drop by Woods on the par 5 17th. Of course it will all be conveniently brushed under the carpet by the gutless golf media, a la the 14th hole of the final round at TPC in 2013.

    • lannyh says:

I remember the drop, but I just recall kind of a closeup of his upper body holding the ball out. I don’t recall much about it. What did he do?

      • CameraMan says:

Sounds like James thinks Tiger dropped a lot farther forward than he should have. They never showed a good camera angle so there’s no way for TV viewers to tell one way or another.

      • lannyh says:

I can tell you this… If that had been Bubba who slammed his club into the tee box, they would have criticized him for an hour.

      • CameraMan says:

I don’t know about that. It seems to me that a lot of the criticism directed at Bubba is because he has a tendency to berate his caddie when he is the dude messing up the shot.

  5. James Langan says:

Hey Lanny, here’s a video of Tiger’s tee shot on 17:

It clearly crosses the hazard early in it’s flight as it’s right, going right, but Tiger basically dropped to the side of where the ball landed (in fact, I believe Stricker ended up hitting his second first despite being in the middle of the fairway!)

Shot Tracker says it all really:
“Drop in right rough, 327 yds to hole
    Shot 2 Penalty
Shot 1 282 yds to water, 315 yds to hole”

Credit to Sky Sports commentator Robert Lee, he actually called it for what it was and said it was an illegal drop. Even if Tiger genuinely thought that was the right place to play from (which is a huge stretch) it’s kind of ridiculous/pathetic how his playing partners/the marshals/Golf Channel & golf media in general (save Robert Lee) have all been too scared or concerned with blindly worshipping their hero to say anything.

    • lannyh says:

You know, I remember Stricker hitting first; the guys seemed like they were surprised, but, like you said, they didn’t question the drop. I’ll take a look and post it in today’s semi-live blog.

    • lannyh says:

I can’t get the video to play. It says it’s not authorized to play in my region. I tried a few tricks to no avail.

      • JoseyWales says:

Lanny…the video was yanked by Finchem and PGA Tour media gestapo…they famously have people scanning the web nonstop looking for stuff that makes them look bad…then they threaten, scold and have it removed (Shackelford does the same thing on his blog)…this has been going on for years. It is in keeping with their laughable “drug testing” policy which nobody is allowed to investigate. You never see the ugly stuff…only the kind and gentle “charitable giving” side of the PGA Tour. And the cover-up continues.

      • lannyh says:

yeah, i wonder if they did this to ensure woods would be around for the weeke3nd. I really want to watch that skysports vid.

  6. JoseyWales says:

Just like CBS, NBC/GC, etc…SKY Sports pays the PGA Tour for TV rights. Part of the contract is the PGA Tour controls the audio/video so they have the right to censor content when they please. Networks may post video clips on the internet of highlights, sound bites, etc. but if the PGA Tour censors view it and don’t like it they will ask for it to come down. Also they will delete the content they don’t like from replay shows. I will guarantee you Golf Channel won’t show it.

    • lannyh says:

Haha, yeah, no way Golf Channel lets this one slip out. 🙂 But, hey, you give me an idea. I’ll tweet one of them and ask about it! (I can’t recall who was on Morning Drive today; probably fill-ins for the holiday. Who did pregame yesterday? I could tweet them now…)

  7. James Langan says:

Hopefully this footage works (currently 5 posts down the page)

  8. James Langan says:

Apologies, just seen that you’ve already found a working link!
