Saturday, Day Three: Quail Hollow Semi Live Blog

Final Update:  A long way to go yet, so, sorry, Hall of Fame cannot be our musical offering tonight.  How about this one, which CBS used to fade out to a commercial at one point late in Rory’s round.

4:50 pm:  Is this a real live sporting event, or is this a Hollywood movie?

4:25 pm:  The question of the day:  Has Rory solved golf?

4:00 pm:  Rory is playing better golf now than anyone I’ve ever seen in 50 years of golf observation.  Maybe Nicklaus at his peak was this good, maybe Norman at his peak.  But Rory is playing better than anyone else.  Maybe Young Tom Morris could give him a run for his money, but I wouldn’t bet on it.  Maybe Hogan in his prime.

3:15 pm:  “Aw, man!” — Jim Nantz after watching Rory stick an approach shot.  This could be one great golf weekend.

3:05 pm:  Thank Goodness for CBS!  They start with Rory and get us quickly up to date!

2:15 pm:  Is Golf Channel boycotting Rory now?  He’s only the #1 player in the world, you know.  The favorite to catch Jack and make history.  I remember a time when the #1 was pretty much the only player they covered.

1:51 pm: Rory with the big birdie on No. 3.  He needed that to vault back up the leaderboard.  Lots of guys who went out early passed him.

I’m glad CBS is doing the telecast this week.  We’ll miss 30 minutes of live action, but it’s worth it to get Faldo and Gannon/Nantz instead of the NBC crew.

I don’t think there’s any question that Rors is The Man, but could we please hold off talking about beating Jack’s majors record until he’s within one or two of it. Thanks.

No, no. That’s not how it works. We start saying now that it’s “not if, it’s when.” We say he’ll crush it, ending up with at least 25, perhaps 30. Toss in a few “he hits shots no one else can hit.” Etc., etc.

I always spent my half an hour to read this blog’s content all
the time along with a mug of coffee.
