That is from this press release.  And there is more good news…

I thought millennials were supposed to be fleeing golf?  Maybe they just prefer younger golfers be shown, eh?  More on the ratings:

NBC Sports coverage of the World Golf Championships – Cadillac Match Play tied for #1 for the night in men 18-49 among the Big 4 networks and #1 outright among those nets in men 18-34.

The golf course was the big winner.

Previously, the Match Play was in February, when half the country is snowed in and golf probably isn’t on the mind much. I wonder what effect, if any, the move to May, when it’s officially golf season across the country, had on viewership/interest. Obviously, Rory and Jordy being in the mix didn’t hurt but can’t help but wonder if there were other factors.

Funny, because with Woods, it was always simply post hoc, ergo propter hoc. For example, sports money went up everywhere, but with golf, it was Woods that caused it.

Rory and Jordy could have been the main factor in the match play, like TW was in prize money, obviously there were other factors.

      • lannyh says:

Yeah, sports money went up in every sport, so, obviously, that was mainly Woods’s doing, too. Woods made tennis players rich! And NASCAR drivers! And baseball and football players! And he made the stock market go up! Yay, Tiger, Gandhi Gandhi Gandhi!!

PGA gets ripped a lot, and a fair amount of it is earned. That said, I don’t know what this is, opening ceremony I guess you could call it. They are recognizing many of the military groups the PGA supports which apparently includes pregnant wives of deployed soldiers. Brought one of the women on stage who is do next week, and then indicated they were able to bring her husband home to view the birth of their child. Maybe it’s just me, but I thought that was pretty cool.
