Leonard Pitts, Jr., of the Miami Herald has written the best piece I’ve seen regarding the Britt McHenry situation. Journalism is not dead.

Self-absorbed? – not at all…
I can’t believe ESPN is keeping her.
The thing about the Britt McHenry story is she represents a microcosm of the media mentality that pervades across the airwaves. She is not the exception, she is the rule. Ever since Watergate the media has adopted a pumped up attitude of entitlement…they think they are invincible and not accountable for anything they do or say. The hide behind the guise of “the public’s right to know,” thinking they can say or write anything they feel like…because they are “the media.” They are arrogant spoiled brats suffering from insecurity and inflated egos.
I can’t read the article because it says I need a subscription. McHenry has a masters in journalism from a prestigious school, but is she covering strife in the middle east? No, she’s on ESPN with her piano teeth and banana yellow hair interviewing athletes no one cares about. Arlington Towing is a crooked company, but there is no excuse for her personal attacks on the towing attendant. It has nothing to do with her being an entitled media member and everything to do with her knowing she’s actually a failure as a journalist and taking it out on someone she believes is a bigger failure than her. Her slap-on-the-wrist suspension is another grain of sand on the mountain of reasons why I hate ESPN.
Weird. I don’t have a subscription or anything. I chose that Chicago Tribune link because I thought it was formatted better. The guy actually writes for the Miami Herald. I think the piece is in a bunch of places. Try googling for “Pitts McHenry Miami Herald,” or if that one doesn’t work, just “Pitts McHenry.” I think it’s good enough to justify the hassle.
You’re probably right that she considers herself a failure; no well-adjusted (or even a little well-adjusted…) person would be so vicious.
You know, in the Tumblr link someone posted above, she referred to something that sounded like a love affair gone bad. Maybe she had some sugar daddy all lined up — “I fly to the Hamptons in a helicopter while you go to Wal-Mart on a bus!” — and he dumped her. I can’t imagine the kinds of guys she’s going to attract now with this in the public eye.
Thanks, I found it and it’s great. The fact that McHenry said “I’m in the news” and “I’m on television” instead of saying she works for the biggest sports network on TV made me think she’s actually ashamed of her job. She probably can’t keep a man because she’s the kind of girl a guy wants to be seen with and sleep with, but she’s too big of a miserable jerk to build a relationship with. Britt McHenry may be rich and “pretty” and on tv, but she truly is a pitiable creature.
Yeah, there’s definitely something not right with that girl.
Britt McHenry: ““I’m in the news sweetheart, I will f**king sue this place.”
“I’m on television and you’re in a f**king trailer, honey.”
This is the same attitude of entitlement held by most in the media….Brian Williams is just the tip of the iceberg. Because they hold a mic or have a camera on them they feel special…an arrogant bunch of inflated egos prone to lying and exaggeration to make themselves appear important. And who are the unsuspecting victims of this bad behavior?…we are… the gullible public.
