Jordan birdies Nos. 3 and 4.  Three back…

10:10 am Update

Aphibarnrat won in Shenzhen in a playoff.  I was for the 19-year-old Chinese lad today, even though I am a big Aphibarnrat fan.  Fun event, with much of the field having a legitimate chance to win on Sunday.

10:00 am Update

Merritt bogies the first hole.  Jordan fails to birdie No. 2, a par-5.  The course looks to be playing easy today; many players under par.

8:50 am Update

Play is underway at Harbour Town.  Playing off of both tees, leaders tee off in 40 minutes.  Lahiri started bogey-birdie.

Just read where Rory has gotten Martin Kaymer, Luke Donald, and Patrick Reed to commit to the Irish Open.  That event is going to be darn strong.

I hope everyone watched the ladies last night in Hawaii.  S.Y. Kim, who started the day with a one-shot lead, had to chip in on the 72nd hole or it was over.  She did it. In the playoff, she holed out her approach shot — an 8-iron over water to a sucker pin — to claim the victory.  One of the most tense, tight endings I’ve ever seen.  Inbee Park was her playoff victim, and I.K. Kim, my favorite, finished one out of the playoff.

It’s nice to see them taking the tournament to the land’s best courses, such as Royal Portrush and RCD. As long as they can keep doing that, the fields will be decent. Let’s hope for Waterville soon.
It’s hard to believe it’s been fifteen years since Ballybunion hosted. That was not such a good happening, with way too much signage littering the fairways.
