He’s barely a side story. Isn’t there a famous quote about repeating a lie?
Heard an interesting “stat” early today. I may not have it 100% correct but enough to prove the point. Rory has just as many scores of 76 or worse as he does 69 or better.
GC talking about a point I made a while back. One of the things that seems to be holding Rory back is his tendency to make big numbers. Not that there is a ever a good time to make a big number, but his seem to come at really bad times. That’s not to say he makes a bunch but I think they just said (rounding) he’s made roughly 10-12 double bogey or worse scores. For a Professional golfer, in 6 or so events at Augusta, that’s a big total.
Only has 1 top 10 as a result.
It’s all about competing when your ‘A’ game isn’t there……I always talk about the Zach Johnson strategy of NOT going for every par 5 in two, but the long hitters view that as blasphemy…..The other thing is Rory’s short game has been ok but not great, at least to this point…If his short game was solid right now, he’d have already won a tournament…..
Agreed. I think it was GMac that was quoted as saying something to the effect of “Drive it far, putt from closer to the hole”. Problem for Rory is not that he’s driving it far, he’s not putting from closer to the hole.
They don’t call the putter “the great equalizer” for no reason. We know Rory will be good off the tee. If he can be near the top in putting as well, it’s his in a landslide. IF.
Haven’t we heard this ‘biggest story’ mantra from the golf channel EVERY time Eldrick decides to back off for a few days, or weeks, or months? I don’t even bother watching the golfchannel right now…It should be used for torture purposes only…..
The problem isn’t “Tiger is the biggest story” because he is. The problem is the media talks about it at the expense of every other player. There is a balance that the media doesn’t seem to be able to find.
The media has said over and over, “Tiger is the biggest story.” And that’s almost all they cover. So, naturally, some people are going to conclude, “Woods is the biggest story.” But he’s not. Why WOULD he be? An aging, injury-prone golfer — who hasn’t won a major in 7 years — is 50-50 to make the cut. Wow, be still my heart. Was Kim Kardashian THE story of the Super Bowl last year? Only if your news source was Entertainment Tonight.
Come on Lanny, Woods is more than an “aging, injury-prone golfer-who hasn’t won a major in 7 years”.
We’re talking about a guy with the second most majors of all-time and second to Snead in tour wins. No one has been in that rarified air since Nicklaus. Five wins just a couple of years ago.
He is still a huge story.
How he hell does your play ten years keep you from aging and breaking down?
