USA Today: “Woods isn’t good for the game anymore”

Wow!  Can someone please show this article to the gang at the Golf Channel?

Gloves-off stuff:

What Woods and everyone else needs to accept is that golf can be relevant without him, and even irrelevance is better than what he currently can offer the game.

And there’s more.  It gets pretty darn bloody.  Bare knuckles commentary.

The media should be all over Rory at this point.  Look at the storylines:  Going for third straight major; looking for redemption at the site of his 2011 meltdown; going for career grand slam.  But the American golf media is still trying to sell Tiger Kardashian.

Kudos to USA Today for having the guts to state the obvious.  My only complaint with the article is that the sentence about “golf enthusiasts” is inaccurate.  Casual golf enthusiasts, maybe.

    What’s better

    1) Talking honestly about TW, or
    2) Talking more about Rory

I think there is room for both, but we know the answer the American mainstream golf media would give.

If you want Rory talk, I urge you to read that New York Magazine piece on Rory. It’s long, but very good. (Other than the lie about Nicklaus’s winning percentage vis a vis Woods’s.)

I actually did. Honestly found it quite boring, except for the Woods/NIcklaus comparison you pointed out. Found that hilarious for no other reason than I knew you’d make a big stink about it.

Haha, well, you’d think the New York Times would be above that. I am going to point out another factual error in another recent NYT article tomorrow. I have to fact check first to be sure my own memory isn’t faulty, though.

I found the part about Michael Bannon to be the most interesting part of the Rory article. Rory having to plead with him to travel to the tournaments and whatnot.
