I recently came across this description of Jack Nicklaus playing an exhibition round at a 2000 course opening in Canada, written by the reporter who got to caddy for him that day (Cam Cole). Good stuff. You can skip down to the sentence with “Kelowna” in it if you want to go straight to the part about the exhibition.
I turned on Golf Channel this morning to hear about this past weekend’s tournaments and was bombarded with Tiger Woods nonsense. Then they switched to… Phil Mickelson nonsense. At least, with Mickelson, it makes sense because he is starting his year this week, but I don’t think either of those two won an event last year.
I looked at the field for the Humana. There were some top-tier stars, but overall it was not a super-impressive field. Pushing top players’ seasons into the fall for the FedEx Cup has had the effect of cannibalizing the West Coast swing. That’s a shame because I think the West Coast tournaments have a lot more character than the tournaments in Florida.
