Short Rory Interview at Abu Dhabi; Article on Youngsters Supplanting Oldsters

Here’s a link to a short interview of Rory at Abu Dhabi.

Here’s a nice piece at Sports360 about golf’s young, rising players.  A short excerpt from it:

It’s now a young man’s game with 25-year-old Rory McIlroy considered a veteran, and the chances of someone as accomplished as Tiger Woods, who just turned 39, are being written off. It’s not Woods’ rivalry with a 44-year-old Phil Mickelson people are interested in, it’s between McIlroy and a 26-year-old Rickie Fowler.

And:

If 2014 was any indication, this could be the breakthrough year for Spieth, Fowler, Frenchman Victor Dubuisson, Japanese Hideki Matsuyama and Kiwi teenager Lydia Ko.

“Old Guard makes way for young stars”? More like “Old Guard paves way for young stars”. Just as Michael Jordan did in basketball, or Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras in Tennis, Tiger Woods, and too an extent Phil Mickelson, have continued building the road that Arnie started and Jack and others continued.

The youngsters in golf today fully acknowledge that a lot of their golf, and draw to it, came from guys like TW and Phil, among others. So, while “the old guard” may be yesterday’s news, they helped inspire the young starts of today. That fact isn’t lost on me.
