- Last Group: Rory and Bernd Wiesberger
- Next to Last: Fowler and Mickelson
- Third to Last: Jason Day and Oostie
And it keeps going. Unless you added Nicklaus and Palmer, it would be impossible to come up with a better leaderboard. Nine players within four shots of the lead. Eighteen within six. With that many near the lead, you have to figure one of them will go low and catch the attention of the guys at the top.
(Wiesberger, when asked about playing with Rory tomorrow, said, “It can’t be any louder than it was today.” He played with Phil.)
I hope Rory wins, but I fully expect Rickie Fowler to play tenaciously. Rickie knows Rory can be beaten because he did it in 2012 at Quail Hollow. My guess is that one of those two will win. Of course, Mickelson knows he is only one good round away from picking up another major and salvaging a very lackluster year. He won’t be a deer in the headlights, that’s for sure.
I wonder if any kids in the gallery will be wearing orange on Sunday…
Tomorrow will be one for the ages. Tonight is Christmas Eve, in August.
