Canadian Sportswriter Breaks Ranks, Calls Golf Media Coverage of Tiger Woods “pandering”

Cam Cole of the National Post of Toronto has called out the golf media for its continuing obsession with Tiger Woods:

[The Woods media fixation] isn’t flattering, and it’s not even very honest. What it is, is pandering.

Take a step back and look at what’s going on in professional golf on the eve of the 96th PGA Championship at Valhalla, and it’s pretty plain: Tiger Time, if we mean his era of domination, is so over.

A fantastic, honest article.  There’s a lot more.  By all means, go read the whole thing.

So what we seem to have here with this website is a place to talk about how the media covers golf. Golf itself is secondary. Nice.

That’s a pretty good description. We cover what the rest of the golf media is afraid to cover, and point out the cowardice and incompetence and corruption where we see it. (And the good, too, like Elling, Shackelford, and a few others.) If you want “regular” golf coverage, there are far better options than this one. There are golf websites with huge 24/7 staffs. It wouldn’t make any sense for us to try to compete with them on run-of-the-mill coverage. We cover what they won’t. That’s the only reason we exist.
