Rory Plays 18 in Three Hours Forty-Five Minutes, Wins British Open

Congratulations to Rory McIlroy for winning the British Open!  Well done!

Don’t celebrate too much, Rory.  Three weeks until the PGA Championship.  You might as well win that one, too, and get back on your one-a-year pace.

Oh, I almost forgot!  Rory was one of our Make-Me-Pay players.  That means we’ll be sending a $100 check to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.  Our first payout this year.  I’m not sure who all we’ll pick for the PGA Championship, but Rory will definitely be on the list.

unfortunately the product placement never ends…….If Rory wins the PGA, he will be the next youngest, along with ‘you know who’…..If Rory wins the Masters, it would be 3 majors in a row, and would then be mentioned along ‘you know who’…..If Rory then wins the US Open, ‘you know who’ and Rory did this…..This should be all about Rory, yet they can’t help but put their knee pads on about ‘you know who’……pathetic……I’m actually a little mad Rory didn’t set the record of 20 under or more today…Did u notice the dozen or so behind him all shot in the 60’s, and he was the only one to shoot in the the 70’s at the top…..Ofcourse winning is the main thing, but…….Golf channel even had some ‘product placement’ stat, which somehow showed the amount of strokes won with 3 majors, and ofcourse they found a way to put ‘you know who’ at the top…..A totally worthless stat, but they continue to try and make someone apart of the story, who literally finished 69th, ahead of 3 other golfers…..smh..

Well, Rory is going to be the betting favorite in majors for a long, long time now.

Assuming current form. Remember, we’re not that far removed from the debacle that was Ror’s 2013 season.

      • lannyh says:

Once he becomes entrenched as the betting favorite, form won’t matter that much. Look at Woods the past few years. It’ll be an exception if Rory isn’t the favorite.

Ben Hogan remains the only golfer to win the Masters, The U.S.Open, and the Open in the same year. In my view, it goes like the following: 1.Hogan and Nicklaus 2. Snead… .
Nobody else in the steel shaft era or the present. In the present, golf is not the great game that it used to be! It will never return. Money rules. Nike can go take a flying leap… along with the rest of their forsaken competitors.

Can’t be disappointed with this week. Rory earned his claret jug. Sergio and Rickie did a great job of keeping it exciting. Rory was genuinely lovable and appreciative of his win, things that have scarcely been seen post-Nike. The golf channel said “Welcome to the Rory era”. With his solo 69th, Tiger has officially been overshadowed.

    • lannyh says:

Wow, Golf Channel said that? The times they are a-changin’.

Rich Lerner said it to open the afternoon edition of Golf Central. I’m not holding my breath for the WGC buildup to be about anything but Tiger. To be fair, he is the defending champion and he’s trying to make the playoffs and the Ryder Cup. Tiger was essentially begging Tom Watson to give him a Ryder Cup pick today, citing his success in 2010 when Pavin picked him. Tom Watson shot a 68 to Tiger’s 75 today and as of right now Tiger doesn’t even qualify for the finals. Tiger is so delusional I almost feel bad for him.

It will be interesting to see how the coverage has changed when we get to the buildup for the WGC in two weeks. I suspect they will still be all about Tiger.

When does the Nike commercial ALL about Rory happen….So far it was Rory with Eldrick, but I think Rory has earned his own commercial now, under the Nike umbrella…..If you remember in 1994, Gatorade did the ‘If I could be like Mike’ commercial……Nike did the ‘I am Tiger Woods’ commercial in 1996(which now looks a bit creepy to be honest)…..Nike isn’t just going to NOT try and capitalize on Rory…I’ve said before, from a marketing standpoint, Rory’s name doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue, and there’s no nickname, to this point, that has stuck as popular with fans…….I’m sure Nike is going to come up with something real soon, ESPECIALLY if Rory were to win the PGA…..So copying past commericals:”I am Rory Mcllory” meh….”If I could be like Rory” meh……Roooaarrrryyy has kinda already been taken with all the tiger references to Woods…..Just a matter of time though….$100 million dollar plus contracts usually deserve a memorable commercial eventually….
