Martin Kaymer Leads by 6, Sends Golf Channel into Tiger Orgy

Martin Kaymer is leading the U.S. Open by six shots heading into Saturday’s action, but if you watched Morning Drive this morning, you’d think Tiger Woods was leading.

I thought Woods wasn’t even in the field.

Every other sentence, the hosts mentioned Tiger Woods.  Every other sentence?  Who am I kidding?  Every sentence!  For some reason, Kaymer’s big lead has caused the Morning Drive hosts to talk not about Kaymer, but about Tiger Woods.

Noticing the trend in the first hour, I did a count during the second hour of Morning Drive.  They mentioned Tiger Woods 47 times in the first eight minutes.  FORTY-SEVEN TIMES IN EIGHT MINUTES!!!

Woods hasn’t even played in two months, and won’t play for another two months.  He may not play all year.  He can’t even swing a club right now.

But that doesn’t stop Golf Channel.  Somehow, Kaymer’s great play has sent them into a frenzy, like bees around a bear stealing their honey.

Cook, Hack, Reimer, Sanders, why don’t you guys get respectable jobs?  You are embarrassing yourselves.  Maybe a carnival backer job is outside your reach, but try begging on a street corner.  At least you’d maintain some of your dignity.

golf channel announcers/analysts get paid in eldrick ‘bobble head’ and ‘fat head’ posters

uh oh…just saw yet another article on ticket sales and eldrick…I’m sure you are shocked like me, that right after a dominating win by someone else, they have to try and keep eldrick in the headlines….

Well, whether they like it or not, Woods’s heyday is well in the past. About ratings, they never mention that the 1975 Pebble-Beach pro-am had a 13.5 rating — higher than every Woods event except two.
